Astrophytum Asterias - Variegated
Common Name: Variegated Star Cactus
Botanical Name: Astrophytum asterias variegata
Variegated Astrophytum Asterias is a rare collector cactus known for its smooth, spineless body, compact star-like shape, and beautiful variegated coloring. Each plant has its own unique mix of green, yellow, cream, or orange tones, making every cactus one of a kind. Its slow-growing nature and striking patterning make it a standout choice for cactus collectors, small pots, windowsills, and display shelves.
Care Info:
Place in bright light with gentle direct sun, but protect from harsh afternoon sun during extreme Texas heat. Variegated cactus can be more sensitive to strong sun than fully green plants, so introduce brighter light slowly. Plant in a very well-draining cactus or mineral-based soil mix. Water deeply only when the soil is completely dry, then allow it to dry out again before watering. Keep mostly dry in winter and protect from freezing temperatures, frost, and cold rain. Avoid letting water sit on the crown or in the pot, as this cactus is sensitive to overwatering. Best grown in a pot with drainage.
Light: Bright light to gentle direct sun
Water: Low; water only when fully dry
Soil: Fast-draining cactus/mineral mix
Growth: Slow-growing, compact collector cactus
Hardiness: Not frost tolerant; protect during winter
Special Note: Variegated plants may be more sun-sensitive than non-variegated forms
Pet Safety: Keep out of reach of pets and children; not intended for consumption.
