Texas Redbud
Cercis canadensis var. texensis
A beautiful small native tree prized for its bright pink to magenta flowers that cover the bare branches in early spring before the leaves emerge. Its glossy, heart-shaped foliage provides attractive color throughout the growing season and may turn yellow in fall. Texas redbud is well suited to Central Texas landscapes and attracts bees, butterflies, and other early-season pollinators.
Care: Plant in full sun to part shade in well-draining soil. Provide regular water during the first growing season to establish a strong root system. Once established, it is moderately drought tolerant but benefits from occasional deep watering during extended dry periods. Protect young trees from severe freezes and avoid consistently wet soil.
Mature Size: Approximately 15–20 feet tall and wide.
