Texas Persimmon
Diospyros texana
A distinctive Texas native tree valued for its smooth, peeling gray bark, dense dark-green foliage, and small black fruit. Female trees produce edible fruit in summer that attracts birds and other wildlife. Its sculptural branching and attractive bark make it an excellent specimen tree for native landscapes, wildlife gardens, and low-water plantings.
Care: Plant in full sun to part shade in well-draining soil. Water regularly during the first growing season, then reduce watering once established. Texas persimmon is highly heat and drought tolerant and performs well in rocky or alkaline Central Texas soils. Avoid overwatering and consistently wet soil.
Mature Size: Approximately 20-30 feet tall and wide.
