Fall Aster
Symphyotrichum oblongifolium
A hardy native perennial that produces masses of lavender-blue, daisy-like flowers in fall when many other plants have finished blooming. Its late-season flowers provide an important nectar source for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Fall aster forms a rounded, bushy clump and works well in pollinator gardens, native landscapes, borders, and low-water plantings.
Care: Plant in full sun to part shade in well-draining soil. Water regularly while establishing, then reduce watering once rooted. Fall aster is heat and drought tolerant but blooms best with occasional deep watering during extended dry weather. Pinch or trim the plant back in late spring or early summer to encourage a fuller shape and more flowers. Cut back after winter dormancy.
Mature Size: Approximately 2–3 feet tall and 2–4 feet wide.
